Mind-Body-Spirit Care

Melissa Huck Nguyen MD

Chronic symptoms can feel permanent, but your brain has an incredible capacity to rewire. As a medical doctor, I help you differentiate structural issues from neuroplastic patterns, blending clinical expertise with a mind-body-spirit approach. With a comprehensive evaluation, we will explore the root causes of your symptoms and chart a holistic path forward. There is hope for chronic symptoms and recovery is possible.

In-person appointments available at the Althea Center (777 Cuesta Drive, Suite 202, Mountain View, CA) and telehealth appointments for patients located in California.

Does this sound like your journey?

  • "I've tried everything, but nothing seems to last."

  • "My scans and labs come back normal, but my symptoms are very real."

  • "Every doctor gives me a different answer—or tells me it's just stress."

You are not crazy, and you are not out of options. Your symptoms are real—not "all in your head." But the source may not be structural damage; it is often neuroplastic (learned neural circuits in the brain and nervous system). Because the brain is adaptable, these pathways can be rewired. Getting the right diagnosis changes everything.

The Integrative Experience

I go beyond surface-level symptom management to address the root causes of many chronic symptoms & nervous system dysregulation:

  • Deep-Dive Assessment: Comprehensive review of your medical history, trauma, stressors, and nervous system patterns.

  • Dedicated Time: Unhurried 90-minute initial consultations and 60-minute follow-ups.

  • Targeted Recovery: Identifying neuroplastic evidence and building a personalized roadmap for lasting relief.

Common chronic conditions that may be neuroplastic include:
  • Chronic pain syndromes
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Functional neurologic disorders
  • Vertigo or dizziness
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
  • Tension or migraine headaches
  • Fibromyalgia
  • And more...
Your Wellness Blueprint

To support your healing journey, I combine evidence-based medical diagnostics with cutting-edge mind-body therapeutics:

  • Comprehensive Diagnostics: Targeted labs or testing when needed to ensure an accurate, safe diagnosis.

  • Neural Rewiring Therapies: Evidence-based Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) to retrain brain-body pathways.

  • HeartMath® HRV Biofeedback: Real-time heart rate variability training to regulate your autonomic nervous system and accelerate neural rewiring.

  • Continuous Care & Support: Direct, secure patient messaging between visits, structured pain-science educational resources, and connection with specialized recovery coaches to keep your healing on track.

About Me: A Journey Guided by Compassion and Science

Bridging clinical experience with mind-body medicine to guide your path toward lasting physical recovery.

As a board-certified family medicine physician, I have been trained to look at the whole person when caring for patients. However, modern clinical practice often limits our resources—specifically the time required to truly delve deeper and see the entire picture. While standard medicine primarily focuses on structural disease and markers such as vital signs, lab results, and medications, there are other deeply impactful drivers of health: adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), personality traits, trauma, relationships, and chronic stressors. Traditional practice settings rarely allow the space needed to weave these elements together.

As someone who struggled with chronic symptoms since childhood, I am deeply empathetic to this experience. It was only after discovering the framework of mind-body medicine that my personal healing journey truly began. As a physician, I also realized how many of my own patients were navigating these same neuroplastic patterns, yet I was unable to fully address them within the standard constraints of primary care.

To give my patients the dedicated partnership this work requires, I made the deliberate choice to launch a consulting clinic focused on helping patients differentiate structural issues from neuroplastic symptoms and find lasting recovery. I am deeply honored to bring both my clinical background and lived experience to our work together.

Targeted Care Options

I offer integrative approaches to address the root causes of chronic symptoms and neuroplastic pain.

Neural Pathway Therapy

Neural pathway therapy focuses on retraining the brain to reduce chronic symptoms by addressing the neural circuitry that perpetuates them.

Techniques like Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and somatic tracking help patients reinterpret pain signals as safe, breaking the cycle of fear and physical discomfort. By understanding how thoughts and emotions influence physical sensations, you can regain agency and foster lasting healing.

EAET

Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) helps patients access and process deeply held emotions—such as anger, grief, shame, or guilt—that can directly drive physical symptoms. By safely expressing and releasing these emotions, patients reduce the burden of stress on their nervous system, connect emotional patterns to physical sensations, and promote true holistic healing.

Somatic & Biofield Care

Somatic and biofield modalities offer additional pathways for deep nervous system regulation, customized to your unique needs. Depending on your care plan, sessions may incorporate objective HeartMath® HRV biofeedback to help train physiological coherence, and/or subtle, non-invasive biofield support like Reiki to lower stress hormones, promote relaxation, and support your body’s natural capacity to heal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between neuroplastic and structural pain?

Structural pain stems from physical tissue damage, while neuroplastic pain results from learned neural circuits in the brain. Even after tissues heal, the brain can continue to send pain signals out of habit or perceived threat. Retraining these pathways allows the brain to unlearn the pain and find lasting relief.

Is this all “in my head”?

Absolutely not. Your symptoms are 100% real and physically experienced in the body. “Mind-body” does not mean imaginary; it means the brain is the generator of the symptom. Acknowledging this source is the first hopeful step toward physical recovery and rewiring your nervous system for safety.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, I offer care on a cash‑pay basis and do not bill insurance directly. By staying out-of-network, I can provide the dedicated time and deep-dive evaluations that chronic recovery requires. I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

What are the fees for your services?

Initial comprehensive evaluations (90 minutes) are $500, and follow-up integrative sessions (60 minutes) are $350. These fees reflect the specialized medical expertise and the whole-person approach I bring to every visit. My goal is to maximize the value of our time together to chart your path to wellness. Total treatment length varies based on individual recovery goals and patient preference.

What is included in a visit?

Every session includes a thorough clinical review, symptom assessment, and a personalized mind-body-spirit plan. You also receive access to the Curable program between visits to support your daily recovery. I integrate evidence-based therapies like PRT or EAET with medical oversight to ensure comprehensive care. For patients who are interested, I may also incorporate biofield therapy into visits as time allows.
